W Stanach Zjednoczonych zachowała się poniższa informacja: Private Frank Sovicki, 338407, Company C, Fourth Infantry, of 318 East Central St., Shenandoah, PA., first Amer to escape from a German prison camp. Frank is a Polish-American but volunteered three days after America declared war. At the time he was captured he was attached to Company B of the Fourth Inf. which was at hill 204 near Chateau-Thierry. Cut off from Company C, Frank, with two other non-commissioned men hid in a shell-hole. Both his companions were killed by snipers. At night Frank tried to reach the American lines. Seeing a group of soldiers whom he believed to be Americans he shouted: "Don't shoot, I'm an American". He was felled from behind, and his gun taken from him upon reaching Switzerland on Oct. 11, 1918. Frank said: "I'm going right back to the trenches as soon as I reach France, and believe me I'll get a few more before the war's over". Edytowane wczoraj o 15:14 przez Jedburgh_Ops

Jedburgh_Ops Napisano wczoraj o 15:05 Autor Napisano wczoraj o 15:05 I ma też sobie poświęcony spory artykuł. A Daring Escape: How Frank Savicki Broke Free From a German POW Camp, Outsmarted Guards and Crawled for 6 Hours to Win his Freedom The first American POW to escape during WWI was a Polish immigrant named Frank Savicki. His is an extraordinary tale of bravery and a prime example of what the human body and mind can do when placed under extreme duress. After being captured in France in 1918, Savicki was transported to Germany where he endured terrible conditions. One night, he used his cunning to fool his guards before running, crawling and even vaulting his way to freedom.
Jedburgh_Ops Napisano wczoraj o 15:18 Autor Napisano wczoraj o 15:18 Shenandoah miner made great escape in WWI Leonard Savitsky considered first doughboy to pull off daring exploit Leonard F. Savitsky, 83, of Brandonville, said his father, the late Frank Savicki, was a coal miner and a veteran of The Great War who had a story to tell. “Back then, my dad was famous,” Savitsky said Tuesday as he recalled the tale. Przy okazji przyczynek do tego, jak przez wieki amerykanizują się polskie nazwiska.
